Mark the date: Pentecost

Pentecost marks the birthday of the church, when the Spirit descended with a mighty wind and tongues of fire, and visitors to Jerusalem heard the gospel in their own languages. We’ll celebrate Pentecost on Saturday, May 26 with a bonfire/cookout. Mark the date and make plans to join us if you are around! More details will follow shortly. If you would like to help plan or lead this celebration email cal [at] liveservegrow [dot] info.

Easter reflections

Risen Lord - He Qi
“The Risen Lord” - He Qi

An event as amazing as the Resurrection requires a season to reflect on. Jonny Baker writes this week about the Stations of the Resurrection gathering held by Grace, a small alt.church in the UK. In it he shares a video of a presentation he made for the service collecting some beautiful paintings by He Qi, who is described as “China’s most internationally sought after contemporary Christian artist.” The images take very familiar scenes of Jesus’ post-Resurrection appearances and render them in a new light, full of color and life.

Pop on some favorite music and fire up the browser to take a look at this short video before you pray this week.  These images will help you re-experience the glory of Christ’s rising. [ Link ]

Alleluia!

Easter Vigil 2007

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

CAL’s Easter Vigil was a fun, relaxed and very meaningful worship experience. I’ve long loved the vigil because of its history — it’s one of the most ancient Christian services we know of, and was the time when the candidates for baptism (or catechumens) completed their instruction and were brought to the font. It’s also incredibly beautiful, wrapping up the essentials of the faith — God’s saving actions for his people, our entrance into a new life in the kingdom through baptism, and Christ’s continued presence with us in the community, its prayer, and in bread and wine. I’ve been to a number of vigils, some quite formal and well done, but this one was the best: Deep, ancient, reverent worship that engaged children in meaningful ways. (more…)

Join us Good Friday, Easter Vigil

This Friday (April 6) is Good Friday, the remembrance of Christ’s crucifixion. On this solemn night we’ll gather at Fletchers’ by 6:30 p.m. for a prayer walk into Peace Valley Park. Supper will follow the walk. Susan is providing the food, and we are intentionally not having a simple meal as fits the occasion, so you don’t need to bring anything… just yourself. Please RSVP to Susan at 215-249-1158 so we can be sure there is enough. Also, the space does not allow a separate kids activity, so children will need to stay with you on the walk and at dinner.

Saturday night (April 7) we will celebrate Christ’s resurrection with our family-friendly version of the Easter Vigil at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of St. Luke Lutheran Church on Rt. 313 in Dublin. This ancient service moves from the darkness of Good Friday to the glory of the empty tomb, retelling the story of God’s faithfulness and remembering our baptism. Several families are telling the story, and we’ll be passing the light, sprinkling with water and other activities to engage children as part of the worship. We’ll do this all in an hour, followed by dessert! Music will be provided by the band formerly known as St. James’ ☺. We will be taking an offering to benefit Manna, an organization that feeds people with terminal diseases and their familes. Be generous, and bring a dessert to share!

Questions? Call Bob, 267-377-7192.
